(Columbia, South Carolina) – The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) released the following statement from its President and CEO, Sara Hazzard, regarding the announcement made during the State of the Port 2021 that Jim Newsome, President and CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority, will retire in June 2022 and that he will be succeed by Barbara Melvin, the current Chief Operating Officer.
“Jim Newsome has been a transformational leader for the South Carolina Ports Authority. His tenure and accomplishments as the SCPA President and CEO mark a period in our state’s history of significant economic development gains as a result of Jim’s commitment to develop and grow our state’s port infrastructure which created a path forward for future success. Manufacturing and many related industries in South Carolina are stronger today because of our Ports. We wish Jim all the best in his next chapter.”
